Make sure you take this credit on your Federal tax return

Believe it or not, you can get up to a $60 credit on your federal income tax return this year if you, but only if you claim it. It's line 71 on Form 1040 for the telephone excise tax that you've paid for years, probably without knowing it. Here's a link to the IRS site.

Makes for a nice dinner. Thanks to the IRS.

Roth IRA or 401k?

The article below presents a sound strategy for allocating investment funds between a Roth IRA and a 401k. Here it is in a nutshell:

  1. Contribute enough to the 401k to get the full employer match
  2. Max out your Roth
  3. Go back to the 401k and put in any remaining funds you can afford
This assumes you can contribute to a Roth and have a 401k to contribute to.
